Sports Update: Tuesday, April 9th

In high school baseball action, Somerset dominated Rockcastle County with two commanding victories, winning the first game 12-2 and the second game 18-0. Pulaski County also secured a solid win with a 10-2 victory over Casey County, while Somerset Christian School faced tough losses against Wayne County, falling 16-3 and 13-0 in respective games.

On the softball field, the Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers triumphed over Rockcastle County with a 4-2 victory, while the Southwestern Lady Warriors dominated Oneida, TN with a 21-1 win in just four innings. The Pulaski County Lady Maroons also secured a win, defeating Casey County 2-0.

In MLB action, Elly De La Cruz showcased an impressive performance, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 10-8 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers at GABP. De La Cruz’s notable contributions included a 450-foot homer and an inside-the-park home run. Will Benson also added to the Reds’ offensive power with a home run. The Reds will continue their series against the Brewers with game two at GABP on Tuesday, with RHP Frankie Montas taking the mound.

In NCAA Men’s Basketball, the UConn Huskies emerged victorious in the National Championship Game, defeating the Purdue Boilermakers with a final score of 75-60. This win marks the Huskies’ second consecutive championship, making them the first repeat champion since the Florida Gators in 2006-2007.

In Kentucky Wildcats basketball news, freshman center Aaron Bradshaw has declared for the NBA Draft and entered the transfer portal. Bradshaw, who made 10 starts for the Wildcats this season, averaged 4.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. If he returns to college, Bradshaw will have three years of eligibility remaining.
