Weekend Wrap-Up: Monday, May 13th

Over the weekend, high school baseball and softball teams showcased their skills on the diamond. Notably, the Somerset Briar Jumpers secured a dominant 10-0 victory over Southwestern in a game broadcast live on Somerset 106.1 FM & Somerset106.com. Pulaski County also had a strong showing with a 10-6 win over Casey Co. On the softball side, the Pulaski County Lady Maroons and the Southwestern Lady Warriors impressed with convincing victories. Pulaski County defeated Russell Co. 11-0 in just five innings, while Southwestern overpowered Whitley County 17-7 in six innings. Continuing their winning streak, the Southwestern Lady Warriors secured a 7-3 triumph over Clinton County, while the Pulaski County Lady Maroons clinched a 12-2 victory against Ashland Blazer.

In MLB action, the Cincinnati Reds had a mixed weekend. They emerged victorious with a 4-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on Friday, highlighted by Stuart Fairchild’s impressive pinch-hit inside-the-park home run. However, the Reds suffered defeats on Saturday and Sunday, falling 5-1 and 6-5 in 10 innings, respectively. Despite Elly De La Cruz’s homer on Saturday and Mike Ford’s on Sunday, the Reds couldn’t secure the wins. Looking ahead, the Reds (17-23/4th NL Central) are set to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks (19-22/3rd NL West) in a three-game series in Phoenix starting Monday.

In college baseball, the No. 4 University of Kentucky secured an impressive three-game series win over the Florida Gators, rallying to win 7-5 in 10 innings on Sunday. This victory marked the Wildcats’ first series win over Florida since 2016. With a record of 37-11 overall and 20-7 in the SEC, the Wildcats are gearing up to close out the regular season this weekend with a home series against Vanderbilt.

In NASCAR, Brad Keselowski emerged victorious in the Cup Series race at Darlington Motor Speedway on Sunday, adding another thrilling chapter to the NASCAR season.
