Weekend Wrap-Up: Monday, April 15th

Over the weekend, high school softball saw Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers claim victory over Danville Christian Academy to secure the 12th Region All A Class championship. Pulaski County Lady Maroons also emerged victorious with a 9-4 win over Tates Creek. However, the Southwestern Lady Warriors faced a setback with an 11-1 loss to Somerset Christian School and a 7-3 defeat against Barren Co.

In high school baseball action, Somerset fell short against Greenwood with a score of 3-1, while Russell County secured a 3-0 win over Southwestern. Sayre also emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over Somerset.

In MLB, the Cincinnati Reds swept their three-game weekend series against the Chicago White Sox. They dominated with an 11-1 victory on Friday, a 5-0 shutout on Saturday with a notable performance by pitcher Nick Lodolo, and an 11-4 win on Sunday. The Reds will now face the Seattle Mariners in a three-game series starting Monday, with games scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

In Kentucky Wildcats basketball news, Mark Pope was officially announced as the new head basketball coach, succeeding John Calipari. Pope, who previously coached at BYU, was introduced during a ceremony at Rupp Arena attended by over 14,000 fans. Meanwhile, freshman Zvonimir Ivisic, also known as “Big Z,” has entered the transfer portal after playing in 14 games for the Wildcats this season.
