Sports Update: Wednesday, October 18th

In high school volleyball, the 47th District Tournament championship game at Somerset High School concluded with the Pulaski County Lady Maroons securing a 3-1 victory over the Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers. Similarly, in the 48th District Tournament championship game at Southwestern High School, the Somerset Christian School Lady Cougars triumphed with a 3-0 victory against the Southwestern Lady Warriors.

In Tuesday night college football action, Jacksonville State hit a field goal as time expired, resulting in a 20-17 loss for the WKU Hilltoppers (4-3/2-1 CUSA). The Hilltoppers are set to return to action next Tuesday, October 24th, at home against Liberty University, with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Fans can catch the live coverage on WTLO AM 1480/97.7 FM, and the game will be seen nationally on ESPNU.

The Kentucky Wildcats (5-2/2-2 SEC) have a bye week and are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, October 28th, for a home game with a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Tennessee Volunteers. The game can be watched live on ESPN.

In Tuesday’s MLB action, Game 2 of the NLCS witnessed the Philadelphia Phillies dominating the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 10-0 score, giving the Phillies a 2-0 series lead.

For Wednesday’s MLB action, Game 2 of the ALCS featured the Houston Astros facing the Texas Rangers. The Rangers lead the series 2-0. The game is scheduled to start at 8:03 p.m. and will be broadcast on FS1.

In college basketball, the Kentucky Wildcats are projected to finish fourth in the Preseason SEC poll. Tennessee was chosen as the top team, followed by Texas A&M, Arkansas, then Kentucky, and Alabama. Kentucky’s annual Blue-White basketball scrimmage is set for this Saturday at 6 p.m. at Truist Arena at Northern Kentucky University, with live coverage available on SEC Network Plus.

As for high school football this Friday, the Somerset Briar Jumpers (6-2) are set to take on the Leslie County Eagles (5-3) with a kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Fans can tune in for live coverage on Somerset 106.1 FM & Somerset106.com. Additionally, the Southwestern Warriors (5-3) will face the Pulaski County Maroons (3-6) with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

In NFL news, the Cincinnati Bengals (3-3) are on a bye week and are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, October 29th, when they will be on the road to face the San Francisco 49ers. The game is set to kick off at 4:25 p.m., with live coverage on WTLO AM 1480/97.7 FM and national broadcast on CBS-TV.
