Sports Update: Tuesday, May 14th

The stage is set for the 47th District baseball and softball tournaments at Pulaski Co. High School. In baseball, Pulaski Co. will take on Casey Co. at 6 p.m., followed by Somerset facing Rockcastle Co. at 8 p.m. The championship game will be held on Tuesday, May 21st at 6:30 p.m. The softball lineup for Monday, May 20th includes Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers versus Pulaski Co. Lady Maroons at 6 p.m., and Casey Co. Lady Rebels against Rockcastle Co. Lady Rockets at 8 p.m., with the championship game scheduled for Tuesday, May 21st at 6:30 p.m.

Monday High School Baseball & Softball:

In Monday’s high school baseball matchups, Russell Co. secured an 8-4 victory over Somerset, while Southwestern triumphed over Danville with a score of 7-1. Pulaski County also emerged victorious with a 6-2 win against Garrard County, and Bluegrass United defeated Somerset Christian School 15-0 in five innings. Meanwhile, in high school softball action, Mercer Co. edged past Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers 11-8 in eight innings, Southwestern Lady Warriors dominated with a 15-0 victory over Lincoln Co. in four innings, Somerset Christian School Lady Cougars defeated Caverna 9-0, and Pulaski County Lady Maroons secured a 10-7 win against Montgomery Co.

Reds Baseball:

In Major League Baseball, despite efforts from Jeimer Candelario, Mike Ford, and Spencer Steer, the Cincinnati Reds fell short in a close 6-5 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opening game of their three-game series. Game two of the series is scheduled for Tuesday, with RHP Hunter Greene starting for Cincinnati.

College Basketball:

The University of Kentucky basketball team is set to face all 15 SEC teams during the 2024-2025 season, hosting nine teams and traveling to play against the other six. Additionally, it was announced that former coach Rick Pitino and his St. John’s team will visit Rupp Arena during the 2025-2026 season, while the Wildcats will play at Madison Square Garden in the 2026-2027 season.

College Softball:

Kentucky Wildcats softball team has earned its spot in the NCAA Tournament for the 15th consecutive season. The Wildcats, selected as an at-large team in the 64-team field, will face Michigan in the double-elimination Stillwater, Oklahoma Regional on Friday at 3 p.m., with live coverage on ESPN2.

Preakness Stakes:

Lastly, this Saturday marks the 149th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan is set to compete in the race, with post time scheduled for 6:40 p.m. and coverage on NBC-TV.
