In college basketball, Kentucky’s DJ Wagner was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week. Wagner showcased an impressive performance, averaging 12.5 points and 6 assists per game in victories against Mississippi State and Georgia. Notably, he recorded his first double-double in the win over Georgia with 18 points and a career-high 10 assists.
On Tuesday, the No. 6 Kentucky Wildcats (14-3/4-1 SEC) were set to face the South Carolina Gamecocks (15-3/3-2 SEC) in Columbia, SC. Kentucky, coming off a 105-96 win over Georgia, looked to continue their success. The Gamecocks, having defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks in their last game, aimed to challenge the Wildcats. Although UK leads the overall series against South Carolina 54-14, the Gamecocks have won three of the past six meetings, including their most recent encounter. Thursday’s college basketball featured a matchup between the Florida International Panthers (7-12/2-2 CUSA) and the WKU Hilltoppers (13-6/2-3 CUSA). WKU, currently on a two-game losing streak, faced FIU, who suffered a 78-69 loss against Liberty. WKU led the series against FIU 27-10 but lost their last meeting.
