Sports Update: Thursday, December 14th

The University of Kentucky has revealed its football schedule for the 2024 season:

  • Oct. 12: Vanderbilt

  • Nov. 2: at Tennessee
  • Nov. 9: Open Date
  • Nov. 16: Murray State
  • Nov. 23: at Texas
  • Nov. 30: Louisville

The Kentucky Wildcats (7-5/3-5 SEC) will face the Clemson Tigers (8-4/4-4 ACC) in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida, on Friday, December 29th, at noon. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.

In Thursday’s NFL matchup, the Los Angeles Chargers (5-8) will face the Las Vegas Raiders (5-8). Kickoff is at 8:15 p.m. on Prime Video.

On Friday, there will be high school basketball broadcasts featuring Somerset Briar Lady Jumpers (0-5) at Pulaski Co. Lady Maroons (5-1) with tipoff at 6 p.m. The boys’ game will follow, featuring Somerset Briar Jumpers (5-1) at Pulaski Co. Maroons (6-0) with tipoff at about 7:45 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on Somerset 106.1 FM & Somerset106.com.

Saturday’s college basketball highlights include the No. 14 Kentucky Wildcats (7-2) facing off against the No. 9 North Carolina Tar Heels (7-2) in the CBS Sports Classic in Atlanta. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on CBS-TV. Additionally, the Austin Peay Governors (6-6) will play against the WKU Hilltoppers (8-3) at Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, with tipoff at 3 p.m. CT on ESPN Plus.

In Saturday’s NFL games, the Cincinnati Bengals (7-6) will host the Minnesota Vikings (7-6). The series is tied at 7-7, with the Bengals winning the last meeting 27-24 in OT in 2021 in Cincinnati. The live coverage begins at 11:30 a.m., and kickoff is at 1 p.m. on WTLO AM 1480/97.7 FM and the NFL Network. Other Saturday games include the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-6) at Indianapolis Colts (7-6) at 4:30 p.m. on NFL Network and the Denver Broncos (7-6) at Detroit Lions (9-4) at 8:15 p.m. on NFL Network.

On Monday, college football action features the WKU Hilltoppers (7-5/5-3 CUSA) against the Old Dominion Monarchs (6-6/5-3 Sun Belt)) in the Famous Toastery Bowl in Charlotte, NC. WKU leads the series against ODU 6-1, including the last meeting, a 43-20 win in 2021 in Norfolk, Virginia. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. ET, with live coverage beginning at 1:30 p.m. on WTLO AM 1480/97.7 FM and nationally on ESPN.
