Sports Update: Thursday, August 1st

Wednesday MLB:

Jake Fraley slammed a three-run homer for the Reds, but it wasn’t enough as Cincinnati fell to the Chicago Cubs 13-4 at Great American Ball Park. The Reds have Thursday off and will open a three-game weekend series at home against the San Francisco Giants, with games scheduled for Friday night at 7:10 PM, Saturday at 7:15 PM, and Sunday at 12:05 PM. College Football:

University of Kentucky football interior linemen Eli Cox and Deone Walker have been selected for the 2024 Outland Trophy Watch List, which recognizes the top interior linemen in college football. Cox is a 6’4″, 311-pound senior, while Walker is a 6’6″, 348-pound junior defensive lineman from Detroit. UK will open the season on Saturday, August 31st at home against Southern Miss, with kickoff set for 7:45 PM.

Friday – Meet The Jumpers Night:

Somerset 106 will broadcast live from Meet the Jumpers Night on the front lawn of Somerset High School. The broadcast crew of Jon Burlew and Tim Washam will anchor the coverage, featuring previews of the upcoming seasons from SHS fall sports coaches. Live coverage will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Somerset 106 and Somerset106.com.

TBT/The Basketball Tournament:

La Familia (UK alumni) will face Carmen’s Crew (Ohio State alumni) in the TBT Final Four in Philadelphia on Monday. Kerem Kanter leads La Familia with 18.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Tipoff is at 9:00 PM, with live coverage on FS1.
