Sports Update: Friday, December 22nd

In Thursday’s high school basketball matchups, the Somerset Briar Jumpers secured a 62-57 victory over the Lafayette Generals, while the Madison Central Indians triumphed over the Southwestern Warriors with a final score of 67-61. On the girls’ side, the Pulaski Co. Lady Maroons emerged victorious with a 53-48 win against the Butler Bearettes, while the Ashland Blazer Kittens dominated the Southwestern Lady Warriors with a final score of 63-44.

Switching to college basketball, the No. 9 Kentucky Wildcats showcased an impressive performance with a 95-76 blowout win over the Louisville Cardinals at the Yum Center in Louisville. Antonio Reeves led the charge with 30 points, supported by Tre Mitchell’s double-double featuring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Justin Edwards contributed 13 points, Rob Dillingham scored 12, and Reed Shepard recorded 11 points and 11 assists. In women’s college basketball, the Kentucky Wildcats achieved a historic milestone by securing the program’s 900th all-time win with an 87-80 victory over the Lipscomb Bisons. Maddie Scherr led UK in scoring with 25 points, followed by Saniya Tyler with 22 and Amiya Jenkins with 20. Kentucky, now 6-7, will return to action on December 31st, hosting the Samford Bulldogs at Transylvania University. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m., with live coverage on SEC Network Plus.

Thursday night in the NFL saw the Los Angeles Rams defeating the New Orleans Saints with a score of 30-22.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s NFL matchup, the Cincinnati Bengals (8-6) faced the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-7).
