Somerset Woman Injured After Being Struck by Garbage Truck on Slate Branch Road

Sheriff Bobby Jones reports a Somerset woman suffered injuries after a garbage truck struck her off Slate Branch Rd.

On July 25, 2025, at approximately 10:27 a.m., Deputy Gerald Wooldridge responded to a call for service of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident on Water Cliff Dr., Somerset, KY. According to the caller, a garbage truck had struck a female subject walking her dog, causing physical injury.

The pedestrian, Renee Long, 54 years of age, Somerset, KY, was treated at the scene by Somerset/Pulaski County EMS, and transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Once at the hospital, Long was transferred to Air Methods to be flown to University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY for further treatment.

The driver of the garbage truck, Thomas Stevens, 51 years of age, Burnside, KY, was not injured in the accident.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Parker’s Mill Fire Department, Pulaski County Special Response Team and Somerset/Pulaski County EMS. The accident investigation is continuing by Dep. Gerald Wooldridge.
