Somerset, KY– Somerset Community College (SCC) is proud to announce that Lesley Osborne, a dedicated student in the Surgical Technology Program, has been honored as the Health Sciences Division’s Student of the Month for March. As a recipient of this prestigious award, Osborne is now in the running for the Division’s Student of the Year Award, which will be announced in May 2025.
The SCC Surgical Technology Program prepares graduates to support surgeons in facilitating safe and effective invasive procedures. Graduates play a crucial role in ensuring that the operating room environment is secure, that equipment is functioning optimally, and that patient safety is maximized throughout each surgical process. Due to the high demand for skilled professionals in this field, graduates find ample opportunities regionally, statewide, and nationally.
Currently employed at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, she has praised the program and its faculty for their impact on her education. “I have learned so much about the profession, which has enhanced my understanding of my responsibilities at work,” Osborne expressed. “The faculty have been incredibly supportive, providing me with the knowledge and skills I need to succeed, and I highly recommend the program.”
Tammy Day, Program Director, commended Osborne’s commitment to her studies, stating, “Lesley has been an exceptional student, excelling in both classroom and hands-on clinical settings. Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital will be fortunate to have her as part of their team.”
Eric Overby, Director of Clinical Education, further highlighted Osborne’s impressive qualities, remarking, “Lesley is a remarkable illustration of the work ethic and surgical excellence we strive to instill in our students. Her contributions to the local community in Somerset reflect the positive impact our graduates can have in the healthcare field,” Overby said. “We are confident she will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of both patients and healthcare professionals.”
Osborne is set to graduate in May 2025 and intends to continue her work at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital following her graduation.
