Somerset, KY– The Somerset Community College (SCC) Radiography Program proudly announces that Jacob Davidson has been honored as the Health Sciences Division’s Student of the Month for November. This recognition positions Jacob as a candidate for the prestigious Division’s Student of the Year Award, set to be announced in May 2026.
A dedicated scholar and 2017 graduate of Clay County High School, Jacob has achieved a remarkable 4.00 GPA while actively serving as the President of the Radiography Student Organization. His academic excellence and leadership reflect his commitment to both personal development and the advancement of his peers within the healthcare community. Jacob’s leadership style fosters teamwork and nurtures a culture of service among students.
Jacob credits much of his discipline and perseverance to his early training in martial arts. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably from 2018 to 2022 as a Non-Commissioned Officer and Field Artillery Cannon Crew Member with 1st Battalion, 10th Marines. His military experience has instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep-rooted passion for serving others—qualities that are now central to his pursuit of a career in healthcare.
Upon completing his military service, Jacob sought a profession that merged technical skills with a meaningful impact on society, leading him to the field of radiography. This career path enables him to assist patients by ensuring they receive accurate diagnoses and critical care.
The Radiography Program at SCC equips graduates to become skilled radiographers, trained in the administration of ionizing radiation for medical diagnostic purposes. The comprehensive curriculum includes specialized courses in radiography, foundational sciences, mathematics, and general education, preparing graduates to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technology Examination. Graduates also have the opportunity to pursue additional certifications in magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography.
Jacob’s nomination for the award came from Program Director Randall Hammock and Director of Clinical Education Shanda Catron. “Jacob’s dedication to learning and his desire to serve make him an exemplary student and future healthcare professional,” said Hammock. “His professionalism, leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence set a high standard for his peers.”
Scheduled to graduate in May 2026 with an associate in applied science (AAS) in Radiography, Jacob plans to further his education at Chattanooga State University, where he aims to obtain a degree in radiation therapy. He is the proud son of George and Crystal Davidson and has a brother, Payton.
