MOUNT VERNON, Ky, (September 30, 2025) On Sunday, September 28, 2025, at approximately 3:03 AM, Kentucky State Police Post 11 London was contacted by Rockcastle County 911 Dispatch regarding a death investigation on Disputanta Road in Rockcastle County.
Deputies had been following up on a missing person complaint, which led them to a residence on Disputanta Road. Upon arrival, they discovered human remains concealed beneath a tarp and other objects in the yard outside the residence.
Detectives from Post 11 responded to the scene and contacted Tausha Flores Mejia, 40 of Mount Vernon, Ky, who was located inside the residence and detained without incident. Following an interview, Mejia was arrested and charged with:
- Abuse of a Corpse
- Murder
- Burglary 1st
- Robbery 1st
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Receiving Stolen Property (valued between $1,000 and $10,000)
She was lodged in the Rockcastle County Detention Center. More Charges are pending in this investigation.
The Rockcastle County Coroner responded to the scene. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.
This case remains under active investigation by Detective James Royal. He was assisted by KSP personnel, Rockcastle County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rockcastle Coroner’s Office.
