Somerset, KY – Join Somerset Community College (SCC) in celebrating Earth Day on Sunday, April 14, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a range of exciting activities, exhibits and demonstrations for the entire family, completely free!
Explore nature with your kids through owl pellet dissections, a nature scavenger hunt, a butterfly house and face painting.
“This is an event designed for all ages. For the young people that join us, we want them to have new experiences and to grow to value all that nature gives us.” Kelly Johnson, SCC Associate Professor of Biology, said. “For the adults, we want them to have a chance to reconnect with nature and be reminded of its beauty.”
Animal lovers can enjoy the exhibits from KY Reptile Zoo experience, the Birds of Prey from Liberty Nature Center, Born-2-Be-Wild Wildlife Rehabilitation and Lake Cumberland Beekeepers.
“Our Earth Day celebration is so valuable because it gives us all the opportunity to pause and connect with nature, and also hopefully learn more about some aspects of our world that perhaps we were previously unaware of,” Johnson said.
To discover earth-friendly technology, you can also check out the Rural Reimagined and KY Electric Vehicles.
Plant enthusiasts will love hearing from Lake Cumberland Master Gardeners, Glory Gardens Greenhouse, and Joy of Natives Native Plants. There will also be an opportunity to take home some plants and seedpods. Additionally, sign up for a chance to win a rain barrel from one of our giveaways.
Come and join us in celebrating the beauty of our planet. There’s so much to explore!
“We are so excited to welcome guests to our campus again this year and look forward to sharing a wonderful day with our community,” Johnson said.
