State officials have received reports of scam text messages claiming to be from the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), or other government agencies.
The messages say the recipient has unpaid traffic violations and must click a link to make payment and avoid penalties such as:
-
- Driver’s license suspension
- Vehicle registration revocation
- Late fees or collections
- Legal action
These messages are fraudulent. Government agencies do not send text messages demanding payment or directing you to unofficial payment websites. Do NOT click links or reply. Instead, report the text as spam and delete it.
