Founder of Somerset Candle Co. and Stay Somerset brings creativity, customer service experience and community passion to tourism leadership
SOMERSET, KENTUCKY (October 28, 2025) — A local entrepreneur skilled in building luxury retail and visitor experiences has been appointed to the Lake Cumberland Tourism Board of Directors.
Pulaski County Judge-Executive Marshall Todd has selected Courtney Ikerd, founder of Somerset Candle Co. and Stay Somerset, to serve a three-year term with the option for reappointment. Ikerd joins six other board members working alongside Executive Director Michelle Allen to support and strengthen the region’s thriving tourism industry.
With a deep appreciation for the area’s natural beauty, rich culture, and economic potential, Ikerd said she looks forward to contributing to ongoing efforts that enhance visitor experiences and promote Somerset-Pulaski County as a premier destination.
“It’s an honor to serve in a small way on a board that’s already doing such impactful work,” Ikerd said. “Michelle Allen and her team have built a strong foundation, and I’m excited to support their continued efforts to showcase all that Lake Cumberland and our community have to offer.”
As founder of Stay Somerset, Ikerd has built a short-term rental company that enhances local tourism by offering high-quality stays and authentic Somerset-Pulaski County experiences. She also highlights those experiences through her luxury candle brand, Somerset Candle Co., an enterprise rooted in creativity and community connection, featuring products inspired by the spirit and craftsmanship of the Lake Cumberland region.
Ikerd has long been an advocate of education and the business community. She formerly worked for the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, supporting business development and community engagement initiatives, and as a business education instructor at Somerset High School. She also served on the site-based decision-making and parental advisory councils for Northern Middle School and Pulaski County High School, and was president of the Young Professionals of Lake Cumberland.
Allen said Ikerd’s entrepreneurial drive and deep understanding of how to create meaningful visitor experiences and deliver outstanding customer service make her an ideal addition to the board.
“Courtney’s creativity, business acumen and love for this community align perfectly with our mission to showcase the beauty, hospitality and spirit of the Lake Cumberland region,” Allen said. “We’re thrilled to have her join our team.”
