Tuesday MLB:
Boston Red Sox CF Jarren Duran clubbed a two-run homer, leading the American League to a victory over the National League in the All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas. This win marks the 10th in the last 11 games for the American League. Duran was named the game’s MVP.
Reds SS Elly De La Cruz singled in the game, and Reds RHP Hunter Greene was the NL losing pitcher, allowing two hits, including the two-run homer by Jarren Duran, in one inning of work.
Friday MLB:
Cincinnati (47-50, 4th NL Central) resumes play after the All-Star break with a three-city, nine-game road trip that begins against the Washington Nationals (44-53, 4th NL East) on Friday at 6:45 PM. The series continues on Saturday at 6:45 PM, with the finale on Sunday at 1:35 PM. Live coverage will be on WTLO AM 1480/97.7 FM.
MLB Draft:
Two Kentucky Wildcat baseball players were taken in the 10th round of the MLB Draft: first baseman Ryan Nicholson to the Los Angeles Angels, and RHP Trey Pooser to the Tampa Bay Rays. Kentucky native RHP Mason Moore was chosen by the Chicago White Sox in the 15th round.
A trio of WKU Hilltoppers pitchers were also drafted: LHP Jacob Bimbi in the 11th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates, RHP Mason Burns in the 14th round by the St. Louis Cardinals, and RHP Grant Burleson in the 18th round by the Houston Astros.
Kentucky Men’s Basketball:
The Kentucky Men’s basketball alumni will be back in action, participating in the TBT (The Basketball Tournament) as part of La Familia TBT. The team will host the Lexington Regional at Rupp Arena from July 19-23. La Familia will take on the 305 Ballers this Friday at 8 PM in their first game.
Team La Familia consists of former UK Wildcat players Eric Bledsoe, Brennan Canada, Willie Cauley-Stein, Kellan Grady, Aaron Harrison, Andrew Harrison, Kerem Kanter (Enes Kanter’s brother), Daniel Orton, Nate Sestina, and James Young. Team La Familia is coached by former Wildcats Twany Beckham and Sam Malone, with assistance from Darius Miller, Jon Hood, and Sean Woods.
