Local Sports: In high school basketball for Tuesday, January 2nd, the Somerset Briar Jumpers defeated Rockcastle County, 80-51. The Pulaski County Maroons won over Boyle County, 82-65, and the Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers lost to Rockcastle County, 45-34.
National and State Sports: On Wednesday – the number 17 Kentucky Wildcats (11-2/1-0 SEC) play at LSU (9-3/0-0 SEC). Kentucky leads the series, 88-23. UK won the last meeting, 92-85, at Rupp Arena on February 7, 2017. Tipoff is at 8:30 p.m. on the SEC Network.
In Kentucky football news – quarterback Drew Barker has announced his intention to leave the UK program as a graduate transfer and play elsewhere in 2018.
The Cincinnati Bengals have signed head coach Marvin Lewis to a new two-year contract through the 2019 season. Lewis has been the Bengals’ head coach since 2003. His record is 125-112-3. He is 0-7 in playoff appearances.
